RFIDTAG is a European company active in closed loop cashless payments. They have specialized in entertainment event access control using RFID technology (incorporated in a wristband). Together with a university and market and technology partners (anonymous) they examined the potential of a new product incorporating active RFID technology. The focus of this open innovation project was to access new business opportunities via product improvement, business model and data-related service innovation. The outcome of the open innovation project included multiple inputs for the product as well as service improvements in the form of new services and the application of statistical processing techniques. The original goal of the project (an integrated active RFID product capable of new and improved services) was not achieved but RFIDTAG was able to incorporate elements into their offering.
