AEInnova was founded in 2014 as a spin-off from the Microelectronics Department of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, which holds 49% of the rights of the technology used. The company managed to develop a solution that combines an energy harvesting product with IoT technology. It offers the thermoelectric cell that harvests energy and the IoT devices together. Both the Repsol Foundation and KIC InnoEnergy invested in the company and went on to provide mentoring, which helped the company to develop its business skills and progress their project. The customers which the company targets are European engineering companies, whose role is to recommend AEInnova’s products to the final user. The company is in the validation phase of their product and has not yet generated any revenues.
